If your car, truck, or C/SUV pulls to the side when you press down on the brake pedal, you have a stuck caliper that needs to be released or replaced. Service Masters can do this for you. We can also service your brakes every 12,000 miles to make sure they never go bad. If you notice any of the following signs of brake problems, you need to bring your vehicle to our shop so we can repair the brakes.

Dashboard Warning Light

You may end up with a dashboard warning light that applies to the brake system. This is a sign that there is a problem with the brake system depending on the specific light. For example, if the ABS light turns on, the anti-lock portion of the brake system is malfunctioning.

Leaking Brake Fluid

Another sign that your brake system needs to be repaired is if it is leaking brake fluid. This usually results in spots on the garage floor behind the wheels. Brake fluid is light brown to dark brown depending on its age. Some brands of brake fluid are also red.

Overheating Brakes

If your brakes are overheating, they will squeal and smell hot. It’s important that you avoid driving your automobile with an overheating brake system because the system will fail once it reaches a certain temperature. Pull over and call for a tow truck.

Spongy Brake Pedal

A spongy brake pedal that no longer resists your foot is an indication that you have air bubbles in the brake lines. This can also be a sign that the master cylinder is dying and needs to be replaced. Suffice it to say, it’s difficult to stop your automobile with a spongy brake pedal.

Strange Brake Noises

Strange noises when you apply the brakes can also be an indication that the brakes need to be repaired. For example, if you need new brake pads, the brakes will either scrape or grind when you press down on the brake pedal. They may also squeal if the pads are too low.

Strange Brake Vibration

Finally, your vehicle should not vibrate when you apply the brakes. If it does, you have a problem with the rotors or the calipers. In the case of the rotors, the surfaces need to be recut because they have warped. The calipers may have road debris stuck in them.
